Going through summer into fall brings the opportunity to grow and harvest produce, to fish and to hunt. While these activities provide food to enjoy at the moment, they also create an abundance to eat later in the year. Julie Cascio, Mat-Su/Copper River Valley District UAF Cooperative Extension agent, will share research-based information on ways to preserve food.
Can Fruits in Jars, Aug 20, 1 – 2:30 pm
Fruits can be preserved in jars. This session will discuss making and canning fruit products, such as juice, sauce, puree, pieces, salsa, and chutney. Using a boiling water canner, types of jars and lids, selection and preparation of fruits, packing the jars and storage will be discussed. Raw/cold pack and hot pack methods will be explained.
